Powell schools receive national excellence awards

Each year the U.S. Department of Education spotlights some of the best schools across the country with its National Blue Ribbon Schools program, which recognizes schools for their academic excellence and for closing achievement gaps between students. Over the last decade, roughly two dozen Wyoming schools have earned the coveted award, some of them multiple times.

This year the state can add two more honors to its growing list.

The Department of Education revealed Tuesday that Casper’s Sagewood Elementary and Powell’s Southside Elementary are among the agency’s National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023. For Sagewood Elementary, it marks the first time the school has received the award, while Southside Elementary also earned the distinction in 2014.
